The pearl has created a disaster for Kino and Juana because Coyotito is gone. The great fortune had made them try to go out to the big city to sell the pearl but instead of selling it and Coyotito going to school, Coyotito has been shot and is now dead. The pearl is home in the sea happy to be there and satisfied but Kino and Juana are not quite home and definitely satisfied.
